Eight weeks of game design principles and 2D mechanics, ending with a playable game built in a modern game engine.
Introduction to Game Development covers the core ideas behind building games — game loops, physics, player input and level design — using a beginner-friendly 2D game engine. No prior programming experience is required, though it helps.
You'll build a series of small playable prototypes throughout the course before combining everything into one complete, polished 2D game by week eight, which you keep and can publish or expand on your own.
Core loops, player motivation and level pacing.
Physics, collisions and character controllers.
Writing gameplay logic and event-driven behaviour.
Packaging and exporting a finished playable build.
I made a full platformer game by week eight and had never coded before. David made the physics stuff genuinely fun to learn.
Great weekend hobby-turned-skill course. I've kept building on my capstone game since finishing.
